The leadership academy

Set in 235 acres of landscaped grounds, woodland and pasture, in a 119-year-old mansion, Ashorne Hill Management College is managed by Jaguar Land Rover. A photo feature on the relaxed yet business-focused environment at the training centre

Built in 1897, in Warwickshire, UK, Ashorne was the residence of the Tree family, a wealthy American dynasty with links to influential people of the day, including Winston Churchill and Neville Chamberlain. In 1939, it was commandeered by the UK Government for the purpose of planning and coordinating steel production across the country during World War II. Such was the secret nature of the establishment that it became affectionately known as the ‘Bletchley Park’ for steel.

Now an independent educational trust, Ashorne Hill Management College is currently managed and governed by Jaguar Land Rover after transfer and sale from Tata Steel in 2015.

  • Ashorne Hill offers management and leadership development alongside conferencing services to a wide range of Tata companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Steel, Tata Technologies and Tata Motors European Technical Centre. It is also extremely successful in growing a wide range of clients from within the private and public sector.
  • Ashorne Hill was for several centuries a farmhouse dwelling before the current mansion was constructed exactly where the previous building stood, with the façade and the original brickwork remaining in place. The idyllic setting dates back to the 11th century. The building is today equipped with 33 training or conference rooms, 112 ensuite bedrooms, sports and leisure facilities, plus a newly-refurbished restaurant and evening bar — and a dedicated concierge and front-of-house team.
  • Over 18,000 managers and leaders visit Ashorne Hill each year for activities such as management training, workshops and management meetings. It was awarded a prestigious contract until 2019 to support a government initiative called Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, which creates opportunities for small-to-medium-sized enterprises to work with the UK’s top graduates, normally at PhD or master’s level. This is the 11th year Ashorne Hill has been involved in this programme.
  • The gardens and grounds surrounding the facility make a perfect setting for team-building activities. Archery is one of the fun team-building activities conducted on the grounds.
  • Ashorne Hill has blended learning and development solutions, including facilitator-led training, experiential learning activities and e-learning content, to meet the training requirements of public and private sector organisations. Over the last few years, Ashorne Hill has worked with 16 Tata companies.
